I’m a historian and geographer with a focus on Namibian and Southern African history. I received my PhD from the University of Zurich and have been working as a postdoc at the Centre for African Studies at the University of Basel. I published on the history of militarization and conservation, transfrontier conservation, human-animal relations, border and land issues in Southern Africa and have been organizing regular academic exchange programs between Namibia and Switzerland. I’m an affiliated researcher at the University of Namibia and reguarly spend time at and collaborate with the University of Botswana, University of Cape Town and the University of the Western Cape . Currently I am based at the Global South Studies Centre of the University of Cologne for my MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship “Past Natures for Future Conservation (PANATURE): Current Narratives and Historical Human-Wildlife-Land Relations in Southern Africa and the European Alps“. In September 2025 I will start a SNSF Starting Grant at the Centre for African Studies at the University of Basel, Switzerland. The project is titled „Curated Escapes and Derelict Landscapes in Times of Climate Change“.
